I might be the luckiest girl in the world. For whatever reason, Sleep No More has offered me a three-month internship. I interviewed today at 2 with the stage manager and apparently confused them into liking me.
For those of you that don’t know, Sleep No More is an off-Broadway, immersive show in a converted warehouse that’s been turned into a 6 story Hitchcockian hotel. Actors tell the story of MacBeth without any lines. They move from room to room and the audience (which wears masks) can follow any actor they choose. Every performance is different for the audience because they kind of choose their own adventure.
As a stage management intern, it’ll be my job to run props up and down the six floors, move audience members out of the way of choreography, and do rapid problem solving. Before and after the show will be the standard paperwork and preset duties. My hours will be from 4-11 PM Sunday-Thursday and 4PM-3AM Friday and Saturday.
This is an insane internship for insane people with a play dealing with insanity. It’s kind of a dream come true.
I have no idea how I’m going to be able to afford it. It’s an unpaid internship without housing and before I even get there for the summer, they’re requiring me to visit to make sure it’s what I really want. It’s already a miracle that they want me so I guess I can pray for another.
This has been going 0n all day:
